Taylor Curcio's First Career Goal Propels Women's Soccer Past Saint Peter's

BROOKVILLE, N.Y.— Taylor Curcio's first collegiate goal lifted the LIU women's soccer team to its second consecutive shutout victory.

Curcio finished a corner kick at the back post less than three minutes into the second half and the Sharks defeated Saint Peter's, 1-0, on Thursday at LIU Soccer Park.

Goalkeeper Eva Katsaitis recorded her second consecutive clean sheet.

LIU had been coming off a 2-0 victory against Delaware State in the home opener on Sunday.

"We were struggling the first half to play our soccer," Curcio said. "And then we got the ball up the field and created that opportunity on the corner kick. For corner kicks, it's just a matter of putting your body on the line. It feels good for me, but it's important to get the win. To get our second win in a row feels great."

The Sharks have now blanked an opponent in back-to-back matches for the first time since opening the spring 2021 season with consecutive 1-0 victories against Mount St. Mary's, Bryant and Central Connecticut State.

Curcio, a graduate student from Merrick, had assisted the game-winning goal by María Camila Orozco in the third minute in the shutout against Delaware State on Sunday.

Thursday's goal marked the first in 20 career games over four seasons.

LIU (2-1) next plays Sunday at 2 p.m. at Stony Brook.
