Six LIU Athletics Teams Earn Perfect Scores in NCAA Academic Progress Rates Report

BROOKVILLE, N.Y. — Six LIU Athletics teams have produced perfect scores from the NCAA in the organization's newly released Academic Progress Rates report.

LIU's baseball, men's ice hockey, men's swimming and diving, women's golf, women's tennis and women's volleyball teams all earned perfect 1000 APR scores.

LIU had the second-most teams with perfect scores of any program in the Northeast Conference.

Each academic year, every Division I sports team across the country calculates its APR using a simple and consistent formula. Each term, scholarship student-athletes can earn one point for remaining eligible and one point for staying in school or graduating. For schools that do not offer scholarships, recruited student-athletes are tracked.

The final team point total is a reflection of actual points earned by a team as a percentage of the points available to earn, with 1000 a perfect score.

The Academic Performance Program has established an essential framework for academic excellence. The program provides measurable goals to ensure schools are fulfilling their commitment of equipping student-athletes with the tools and resources necessary to achieve academic success.

The NCAA's national average is 984 across all sports teams.

Other high achievers among LIU athletic programs include women's soccer (997), men's basketball (995), field hockey (993), women's cross country (992), women's swimming and diving (992), men's lacrosse (989), men's soccer (988), softball (987), women's bowling (987) and women's lacrosse (985).

"We're proud to once again show great progress in retaining and graduating our student-athletes," athletic director Dr. William E. Martinov Jr. said. "Our teams' continual improvement reflects our commitment to our three departmental goals: to graduate, to grow and to win."
