SHARKS WIN! Softball Claims Series Victory Topping Fairleigh Dickinson, 8-6

HACKENSACK, N.J. – It was a high scoring affair on Sunday as the LIU softball team took on the Fairleigh Dickinson Knights. All 14 runs scored in the game came across the plate from the fifth inning onward with the Sharks holding a lead and winning 8-6.

It was a battle of the defense as nothing was going for either team until the top of the fifth inning when the Sharks scored five runs from three hits and one Knights error. Senior short stop Kiana Cisneros earned two RBI when she doubled through the left side. LIU now lead 5-0 and wouldn't trail in the game.

The Sharks would score one more in the top of the sixth before the Knights got two on the board in the bottom half of the inning. When LIU had two more runs driven in in the top of the seventh, it was enough of a buffer to hold out against a four-run FDU rally in the bottom of the seventh. The Sharks would hold their 8-6 advantage through the end of the game.

Desiree Smith, 5-4, got the win for the Sharks in the circle, pitching five innings and allowing only two earned runs to come in.

Coming up next, the Sharks are facing off with the Hofstra Pride in Hempstead, N.Y. on Tuesday with first pitch set for 4 p.m.
