Back-To-Back! Wrestling First In Scholar Team All-America Rankings

BROOKVILLE, N.Y. – For the second straight year, LIU wrestling is No. 1 in the classroom.

The NWCA announced the 2022 Division I Scholar All-America Awards, and the Sharks were ranked first among 78 programs for the Scholar Team All-America rankings with a team GPA of 3.626, the highest in the country.

"The fact that we're the numer one in the country for the second year in a row is awesome," head coach Joe Patrovich said. "The guys work hard and they do everything right, I couldn't be prouder. We recruited the right guys and they've excelled in the classroom and on the mat. From the minute they showed up, they've been close and have had great chemistry."

"On behalf of the NWCA Board of Directors, It is my honor to recognize these exceptional athletes and teams," NWCA Executive Director Mike Moyer said. "Wrestling takes much focus and sacrifice and we are proud to honor these wrestlers for their obvious commitment to their academic pursuits."

The Sharks finished first in the field in front of Hofstra (3.575), Cleveland State (3.553), North Dakota State (3.542), and Campbell (3.484) to round out the top five.

LIU had four wrestlers earn Scholar All-American honors. Devin Matthews (3.67), James Langan (3.74), Nunzio Crowley (3.89), and Tim Nagosky (3.99) rounded out the selections. Matthews is now a two-time recipient after earning the distinction in 2021.
