MADEIRA BEACH, Fla. – The LIU softball team headed to The Sunshine State for a week to participate in the annual Spring Games and started off the event by taking down the Rams of the University of Rhode Island, 2-0.
 
SHARK BITES

• The Sharks had a winning opening day to start off their first of seven games in Florida and struck twice, once in the third and again in the fifth, against the Rams to win 2-0.
• Nothing was going for either team until the bottom of the third when senior Kiana Cisneros doubled and then advanced to third on a wild pitch to get into scoring position. When senior Ciara Granado sent up a sac fly to right field Cisneros scored and put LIU on the board first, leading 1-0 ad the end of the third.
• All was quiet in the fourth, but then senior Camryn Lyman got the ball rolling for the Sharks in the fifth with a single before being advanced to second on a bunt from Maya Avila. Granado singled before advancing to second and earned an RBI when Lyman crossed the plate to score LIU's second run. The Sharks would hold onto their 2-0 lead through the final two innings.
• Sophomore Alyssa O'Donnell (3-3) got the win on the mound, pitching 6.2 innings and allowing only three hits.
• Up next, the Sharks take on Middle Tennessee State and U Albany in Saturday action, at 1:30 and 4 p.m.
