SHARKS WIN! Men’s Tennis Downs Queens, 4-3

QUEENS, N.Y. – The LIU men's tennis team had a 4-3 dual match win against Queens College Friday afternoon. The Sharks rallied after losing the doubles point to come back and take the win.
 
"I am very pleased with the guys for coming back and winning this match!" associate head coach Pavlos Stephanides said. "We started out nervous in doubles against a tough Queens College team. We came back strong on most courts in singles, but the 2021 ECC Champs were not going down without a fight. Nevertheless, the guys kept their composure in the third sets at Nos. 4 and 6, and completed an excellent comeback."
 
SHARK BITES
  • Queens took the doubles point with 6-1 wins at Nos. 2 and 3. Ben Brandherm and Danila Ishchanka had the lone win at No. 1, 6-4.
  • Queens jumped out to a 3-0 lead with straight set singles wins at Nos. 2 and 3, but Alessandro D'Anna shifted momentum with his 6-3, 6-2 win in the No. 5 singles spot.
  • Brandherm then beat Kareem Rashad at No. 1 singles, 6-4, 6-4, and LIU was only trailing by one, 3-2.
  • Sergio Fernandez Romera tied the match up, 3-3 at No. 4, where he prevailed over Mortiz Borges in three sets, 6-3, 3-6, 6-4.
  • Philip Hible clinched the win for LIU in the No.6 singles spot, where he and Francisco Gonzalez had a battle. The two split the first sets, 7-5, 5-7, before Hible took set three, 6-2, to clinch the 4-3 victory for the Sharks.
