Softball Takes on Saint Francis U

LORETTO, Penn. – LIU softball battled it out with Saint Francis University in the final game of the series on Sunday at noon, dropping 13-4 to the hosting Red Flash in six innings.

SHARK BITES
  • The Sharks struck first, scoring two in the top of the second when, thanks to an error in right field, Camryn Lyman got on first and was able to drive in Kristen Blanchard and Kiana Cisneros who had both drawn walks to get on base.
  • LIU extended the lead to 3-0 in the top of the third when Ryleigh Bermea sent one over the left field fence for a solo home run.
  • In the bottom of the third is when the Red Flash began to respond, starting off with a home run to put the score at 3-1 heading into the fourth.
  • Once again, the Sharks were able to draw a run from SFU when on a Lyman single and an error by second base Katie Hinkle crossed the plate. Hinkle had gotten into scoring position thanks to a single to left field before stealing second.
  • That would be all for the Sharks, but the Red Flash promptly responded, tying up the ball game 4-4 in the fourth thanks to three runs off of two hits. They then extended their lead to 10-4 in the fifth courtesy of five hits and one error. The final three runs were scored by the hosts in the bottom of the sixth with three hits giving the SFU the 13-4 ball game.
  • Elena Valenzuela (2-7) got the loss on the mound for the Sharks.
  • Up next, the Sharks have their home opener against Hofstra on Wednesday, March 23 at 3 p.m. in Brookville, N.Y.
