AMHERST, MASS. – The LIU men's ice hockey team squared off against No. 10 UMass for the second time in as many days on Saturday night. The Sharks fell to the Minutemen, 3-1. With the loss, LIU's record moves to 8-17-3 overall. 
 
SHARK BITES

• The Minutemen opened scoring on a power play with 3:48 in the first, to give UMass the lead, 1-0.
• UMass grew the lead to 2-0 in the second, but the Sharks answered, as Max Balinson scored off a Carter Ekberg assist to make it 2-1 with 18:29 to go in the second period.
• The Minutemen added one more goal in the third, pushing the score to the eventual final of 3-1.
• Kris Carlson earned the start in goal, making 27 saves for the Sharks.
• Spencer Cox led the Sharks with six shots on goal, while Billy Jerry had five.
• Up next, the Sharks will host Saint Michael's College on Friday, February 11 in Syosset, N.Y. at 12:00 p.m.
