EAST MEADOW, N.Y. – The LIU men's ice hockey team returned home for the first time in nearly a month, beating Alaska Fairbanks, 4-1 Friday afternoon. LIU's effort was anchored by goalie Kris Carlson's performance, as he made 29 saves in net.
 
SHARK BITES

• Tyler Welsh got the Sharks on the board midway through the first period, scoring his seventh goal of the season to give LIU a 1-0 lead. Nolan Welsh and Jake Stevens earned the assists.
• LIU added to its lead with two goals on power-play opportunities. Five minutes into the second, Isaiah Fox scored on a man-up, and then Billy Jerry added a goal to make it 3-0, Sharks. The Nanooks would score on a power play of their own to bring the score to 3-1 heading into the final 20 minutes.
• Both teams were scoreless in the third period, until Spencer Cox fired a shot from the other side of the ice that found the empty net, pushing the score to 4-1.
• Stevens finished with two assists, while Cox, Nolan Welsh, Tyler Welsh, and Max Balinson each had an apple, as well.
• Up next, the Sharks are back, Saturday, February 19 at 2 p.m. to host the Nanooks again.
