Softball Takes on GCU

PHOENIX, Ariz. - The LIU softball team opened the Purple and White Classic Thursday afternoon, falling to host Grand Canyon 9-0 in five innings.

  • The host Lopes scored four runs in the first inning to take the early lead, and used home runs in the third and the fifth to score nine unanswered runs. 
  • GCU's Jacie Hambrick held the Sharks to just two hits over 5.0 innings. Sophomore Alyssa O'Donnell (0-3) had the loss on the mound for LIU.
  • Camryn Lyman and Ryleigh Bermea each had hits for the Sharks.
  • Up next, LIU takes on Santa Clara and Cal State Fullerton in Saturday action.
