EAST MEADOW, N.Y. — The LIU women's ice hockey team's 10-game unbeaten streak came to an end on Friday night, albeit in nonconference play.
Minnesota State came to Northwell Health Ice Center and blanked the Sharks, 8-1, in the first of back-to-back games between the teams on Long Island.
LIU had been 9-0-1 in its last 10 games to surge to the top of the NEWHA standings.
Abby Latorella got the Sharks on the scoreboard midway through the third period after the Mavericks scored the game's opening seven goals.
With first-string goaltender
Tindra Holm competing in international play in her native Sweden this week, freshman
Annie Abramson handled the duties in net.
The teams meet again Saturday at 2 p.m. at Northwell Health Ice Center.
