Women's Hockey Heads into Holiday Break after Completing Minnesota State Series

EAST MEADOW, N.Y. — The LIU women's ice hockey team headed into a holiday break on a down note.

Minnesota State completed a two-game series sweep with a 5-1 victory on Saturday afternoon at Northwell Health Ice Center.

Stella Scott's goal 75 seconds into the second period had pulled the Sharks within 3-1. However, Carrigan Umpherville picked up a five-minute major for contact to the head. And on the ensuing power play, Minnesota State's Alexis Paddington restored a three-goal lead with a goal at 16:02 of the second period.

Annie Abramson handled the goaltending duties for a second straight day with No. 1 netminder Tindra Holm in her native Sweden this week competing in an international competition.

LIU had entered the weekend with a 10-game unbeaten streak (9-0-1). The Sharks nonetheless sit atop the NEWHA standings.

After a holiday break, LIU continues nonconference action with games at Penn State on Dec. 30 and 31.
