MADISON, N.J. — Mo Elsayed was the first gold medalist in LIU men's fencing history last Sunday. Today, the Sharks accomplished another "first."
WIthout Elsayed, who was overseas competing with Team Egypt, LIU picked up its first team win, against Yeshiva, on Sunday at the Drew Rangers Fall Invitational.
Overall, the team finished 3-4, taking down Florida and Pitt.
"It was a historic day for us all around," head coach
Ivan Lee said. "With Mo overseas, the rest of the team stuck together stepped up big time."
Freshman
Andrew Gefell won 20 of his 21 bouts.
Taking part in the Drew Invitational marked the first team tournament in the program's history.
Up next, the Sharks will take part in the Vassar Invitational on Nov. 13.
