EAST MEADOW, N.Y. — Anthony Vincent picked up where he left off a night earlier, producing a first-period shorthanded goal on the backhand to stake the LIU men's hockey team to an early lead.
However, No. 12 Ohio State got a natural hat trick from Cam Thiesing in the second period, capped by a highlight-reel lacrosse-style goal, en route to defeating the Sharks, 4-1, on Saturday night at Northwell Health Ice Center.
The teams split the two-game series. LIU had earned the program's first-ever win against a ranked opponent on Friday night, with Vincent assisting
Adam Goodsir for the third-period game-winner in that one.
Afterward, coach
Brett Riley lamented not getting the sweep against the Buckeyes.
"It was a great effort, but not enough to win," Riley said. "We had too many penalties to put ourselves in a position to be successful."
LIU (3-9-1) returns to action next weekend with Saturday and Sunday evening games against Brown. Tickets are available
