LANCASTER, Pa. — Robbie Sagaris reached the semifinals at 125 pounds and four other LIU student-athletes wrestled their way into the quarterfinals at the Shorty Hitchcock Open on Saturday.
Drew Witham at 149 pounds,
Gavin Claro at 184 pounds,
Joe Lopresti at 197 and
Aeden Begue at 285 all reached quarterfinal matches with victories.
LIU finished seventh of 37 groups competing.
Sagaris defeated Nassau Community College's Joe Petrone in the quarterfinals, 8-3. He took fourth in the weight class.
Witham defeated Logan Waller of Kutztown, 3-1, in the Round of 16 and finished 4-1 overall.
Claro pinned Kahliq McCalman of East Stroudsburg in the Round of 16.
Lopresti pinned Liam Feister of Thaddeus Stevens and had a 14-4 major decision against Elijah Hunter of Garrett Community College.
Begue defeated Millersville's Jordan Espinosa, 4-2, in the Round of 16 and went 3-1 overall.
The Sharks next compete at the Cliff Keen Open in Las Vegas Dec. 2-3.
