EAST MEADOW, N.Y. — The LIU women's hockey team won its seventh-straight game after the Sharks' 3-2 win against Stonehill on Saturday afternoon.
Jeannie Wallner scored the game-winning goal with under a minute to play as the Sharks competed their two-game sweep against the Skyhawks.
"It was a great team win for us," said Waller after the game. "We battled hard until the final minute and we were able to find the back of the net to seal the deal."
The Sharks started the game with an early goal from Mikayla Lantto with help from Ryane Kearns and Alva Johnsson. Stonehill eventually tied the game at one to end the first period.
LIU's second period response was a strong one. Carrigan Umpherville found the back of the net seven minutes into the period to give LIU a 2-1 lead. Stonehill responded minutes later and tied the game at two.
LIU controlled the majority of the third period, as Wallner sealed the deal for LIU, scoring the game-winner with 47 second left in the contest.
"We came out ready to play in the third period and Wallner's goal was well deserved, said head coach Kelly Nash. "It's a good feeling to win games like this. Credit to our team for playing a full 60 minutes."
