Megan Bouveur set the tone and the LIU women's ice hockey team continued its winning ways on Friday.
Bouveur scored a pair of power-play goals and the Sharks defeated Stonehill, 5-1, at Northwell Health Ice Center.
LIU improved to 8-6 overall and 7-1 in NEWHA while upping its winning streak to six straight games.
Bouveur, a senior center from Victoria, B.C., opened the game's scoring when she put home a rebound on the man advantage at 14:43 of the first period. She then staked the Sharks to a two-goal lead with another power-play goal 2:28 into the second period.
Maggie Culp's even-strength goal two minutes later opened a 3-0 advantage.
Goaltender
Tindra Holm made 15 saves.
Mikayla Lantto and
Sarah Rourke contributed third-period goals to secure the victory.
"One of the things we focused on this week was scoring goals," coach
Kelly Nash said. "That was something we really highlighted and emphasized. It was great to see the result in today's game."
The teams play the second of their back-to-back games on Saturday at 2 p.m. at Northwell Health Ice Center.
