MADISON, Wisc. — Just like with Northeastern and Quinnipiac earlier this season, the LIU men's hockey team took host Wisconsin to overtime on Saturday night.
Unfortunately for the Sharks, they fell to the Badgers, 4-3, at the Kohl Center.
Zach Urdahl scored during 3-on-3 hockey in the extra period for Wisconsin.
Bidding for the program's first win against a Big Ten program, LIU had built a 2-0 first-period lead on goals from
Josh Zary and
Adam Goodsir.
After Wisconsin knotted the score at 2 during the second period,
Austin Brimmer answered to give the Sharks a 3-2 lead heading into the second intermission.
Brandon Perrone started in goal for the Sharks, but was forced to depart in the second period due to injury. He and
Vinnie Purpura combined to make 44 saves.
LIU was swept in the back-to-back games against the Badgers with a pair of one-goal defeats.
Despite taking Northeastern, Quinnipiac and Wisconsin to overtime this season, the Sharks have only a point to show for it. That came in a 2-2 tie at then No. 7 Quinnipiac on Oct. 9.
LIU (1-8-1) now returns to action next Saturday at Assumption.
