SOUTH BURLINGTON, Vt. — Jeannie Wallner set the tone and the LIU women's ice hockey team continued to roll Friday night.
Wallner, a sophomore from Kings Park on Long Island, produced her third straight two-goal game and the Sharks defeated host Saint Michael's, 3-1, at Cairns Arena in the first of back-to-back games.
LIU (6-6, 5-1 NEWHA) extended its winning streak to four games, all in NEWHA play.
Wallner's first goal came on a deflection of a shot from
Emma Mörtl in the first period. Wallner's third-period goal later reopened a two-goal cushion.
She now has a team-leading six goals this season — with all coming in the past three games.
"I'm really happy with how the team has been playing," Wallner said. "We all work together to make our success possible. We are constantly working on the small details and will be looking for the sweep tomorrow. I'm excited to keep playing with my linemates."
Megan Bouveur's second-period goal had built a 2-1 lead.
LIU outshot the Purple Knights, 48-15. The Sharks also won 34 of 51 faceoffs.
Goaltender
Tindra Holm made 14 saves.
The Sharks were returning to action after nearly two weeks without a game.
The teams meet again on Saturday at 3 p.m. in Vermont.
