BROOKVILLE. N.Y. – On Military Appreciation Night, the LIU men's hockey team cruised to an 8-1 victory over the Saint Anselm Hawks at the Northwell Health Ice Center. The eight goals scored by the Sharks marks a new season-high.
 
SHARK BITES

• The Sharks used a 3-0 first period to take control of the contest.
• Seniro PJ Marrocco scored LIU's first goal of the night, just over three minutes into the game. Then 10 minutes later, Tyler Welsh scored off a power-play to make it 2-0. 
• Nolan Welsh would add to the total 10 minutes later, when he fired in his fifth goal of the season to make it 3-0.
• In the second, the Sharks outscored the Hawks 4-1, to push the lead to six goals.
• Saint Anselm scored its first goal seven and a half minutes into the period, but LIU answered 11 seconds later with a goal from Gustav Müller to squelch the Hawks' momentum.
• Carson Musser, Jack Quinn and senior captain Zack Bross also scored for LIU in the 8-1 win.
• Tyler Welsh, Spencer Cox and Jake Stevens led LIU with two assists apiece, while Jordan DiCicco, Marty Westhaver, Rob McCollum, Ethan Martini, Preston Brodziak and Billy Jerry all had apples on the night as well.
• Goalie Vincent Purpura had the win in net making nine saves, while Brandon Perrone minded the net in the third, making nine saves of his own.
• Up next, the Sharks take on the Hawks again at the Northwell Ice Center on Saturday, January 21.
