BROOKVILLE, N.Y. - The LIU men's soccer team fought a hard battle in its home opener against Hofstra, falling to the Pride, 1-0.
The two teams were evenly matched in nearly every statistical category, but the visitors snuck a goal in in the 44th minute. LIU would rally to take several shots in the final minutes of the game, but the Pride keeper made five saves to maintain the shutout and give his team the win.
The two teams shared eight yellow cards between them, and over 25 fouls.
Emil Jaaskelainen had three shots, while
Assane Ben Fall had four for the Sharks, including two on net.
Papa Sow,
Henry Haferkorn,
Fridtjof Andberg and
Hans Oeftger also had chances for LIU. Keeper Demetri Skoubakis made two saves in net.
With the loss, LIU moves to 1-2-1 on the season. Up next, the Sharks host UMBC, Saturday, September 11 at 4 p.m.
