BROOKVILLE, N.Y. – The LIU field hockey team notched its first victory of the 2021 season Sunday afternoon at home, beating Georgetown 2-1. With the win, LIU moves to 1-1 in their early season.
The game was close throughout. Georgetown would get on the board first, scoring a goal in the second period on a penalty corner to make it 1-0. But just two minutes later, the Sharks evened it up, when
Emilce Paez scored her first goal of the season to make it 1-1.
In the fourth quarter, it was junior
Felicia King who would score the eventual game-winner. The Trinidad native scored three minutes into the period to put the home team on top, 2-1. And LIU's defense held for the remainder of the period, helping the Sharks clinch the 2-1 victory.
Up next, the Sharks head north to take on local rival Columbia in Inwood, Friday, September 10 at 12 p.m.
