BRONX, N.Y. – The LIU men's soccer team battled local rival Fordham for 110 minutes Saturday afternoon, but neither team could convert offensive chances, and the day ended with a 0-0 double overtime tie.
With the tie, LIU moves to 1-1-1 on the season.
The game was even throughout, with 11 shots for the Sharks, and 15 for the Rams. Of the two team's 26 shots, only three were on net.
LIU had several chances to score, including two crucial missed chances in the overtime periods.
In the 99th minute, sophomore
Emil Jaaskelainen had a chance on an open net because of a mistake by Fordham's keeper, but he missed wide left, and the first overtime ended. Sophomore
Assane Ben Fall also had a shot in the 109th minute, but it was blocked, and the game ended in a tie.
Up next, LIU plays at home for the first time this season, hosting Hofstra, Wednesday, September 8 at 4 p.m.
