FAIRFIELD, Conn. - The LIU men's soccer team extended its unbeaten streak to six games Thursday afternoon, beating Sacred Heart on the road, 2-0. With the win, LIU moves to 6-2-2 overall this season, and 2-0-0 in Northeast Conference action.
The Sharks would get on the board in the 41st minute, when sophomore
Emil Jaaskelainen scored. He was assisted by
Jeremy Guardado and
Alan Martinez, putting LIU up 1-0 at the half.
LIU kept the defensive pressure on. Sacred Heart's goalie made eight saves in net to keep the score close, but LIU would score once more in the 54th minute.
Javier Rehberger took a corner kick, and
Henry Haferkorn would score his first goal of the season off his pass, giving the Sharks a 2-0 lead. SHU kept the pressure on for the remainder of the contest, but LIU would limit shots and take the win, 2-0.
Senior
Demetri Skoumbakis earned the shutout win in goal, making three saves.
