STORRS, Conn. - The LIU women's hockey team held the University of Connecticut scoreless through the first period Saturday, before eventually falling to the Huskies, 2-0 on the road. Freshman goalie
Tindra Holm made 41 saves in net for the Sharks in her collegiate debut.
The Sharks had chances to score in the first period, including back-to-back shots by
Abby Latorella that were blocked, but neither team got on the board in the first, 0-0. LIU continued the strong defense into the second period, as the home team would not score until the final 65 seconds of the period, to take the 1-0 lead.
Delaney Bonifacio and
Megan Bouveur both had shots on goal in the second period that were saved by the Huskies' keeper.
UConn would but away an insurance goal eight minutes into period three, going up 2-0 on the Sharks. LIU would have a power play in the third, but couldn't convert, and the Sharks defended two power plays for UConn successfully, but were not able to get on the board, falling to the Huskies, 2-0.
