Football Faces FIU in Season Opener

MIAMI, Fla. – The LIU football team opened the 2021 season on the road Thursday night, taking on Florida International in a game that was delayed over an hour due to weather. In the end, the host Panthers took the first win of the year, beating the Sharks, 48-10.
 
FIU jumped out to a 20-0 lead in the first quarter, but the Sharks made up ground in the second. Quarterback Camden Orth had a 74-yard touchdown pass to Derick Eugene that would put the Sharks on the board. Paul Inzerillo's extra point was good, and LIU was on the board. Later in the period, Inzerrillo would make a field goal, and the Sharks cut the gap to 28-10 at the halftime break.
 
Thought the Sharks limited scoring in the second half, LIU didn't find the endzone again, with FIU scoinng 28 points to take the 48-10 win.
 
Orth led the team in his first start of the year, throwing for 197 yards. The QB was 15-for-30, including the 74-yard TD pass, and also rushed for 26 yards. His main target was Eugene, who finished the day with 115 yards on seven catches, including the touchdown. Owen Glascoe had 38 yards on two catches. Jonathan DeBique had 34 yards rushing on seven attempts to lead LIU's running game.
 
Tariq Snead was the highlight for the Sharks' defense. He had five tackles on the night, along with an interception he returned for 26 yards.
 
Up next, the Sharks take on West Virginia, Saturday, September 11 in Morgantown at 5 p.m.
