Softball Scuffles with Saint Francis U. Saturday

BROOKVILLE, N.Y. – The LIU softball team had its 17-game win streak snapped at home Saturday afternoon, falling to Saint Francis U. in both games of a doubleheader, 3-1 and 2-0. With the losses, LIU moves to 25-5 in the NEC.

In the first game of the day, neither team would get on the board until the bottom of the fifth. The Sharks would score first, with one out. Senior Patricia Griffin singled, and advanced on a throwing error. She would come home on Camryn Lyman's double to left center field, and LIU led, 1-0.

The Red Flash would answer in the top of the sixth, scoring three runs on three hits and an error, taking a 3-1 lead. Neither team would score again, and the Red Flash took the game one win. Senior Tallie Woodson had the loss on the mound, just her second of the season, striking out nine batters in 7.0 innings.

The second game of the day was also a pitcher's duel, as neither team would score until the sixth inning. SFU would get ono the board then, when a two RBI double put the Red Flash on top 2-0. The Sharks couldn't get an offense going, and the Red Flash took game two, completing the sweep. Senior Haley Irvis pitched the complete game, striking out six batters in her first loss of the season.

Up next, the two teams complete the series with a double header, Sunday, May 9 at 12 p.m.
