BROOKVILLE, N.Y. – The LIU wrestling team had five team members earn academic awards Thursday, as the Eastern Intercollegiate Wrestling Association announced their annual Academic Achievement Awards.
 
Tom DiGennaro, James Langan, Devin Matthews, T.J. Franden and Chris Gomez were all honored by the league for their work in the classroom and on the mat.
 
To qualify for an EIWA All-Academic award, an athlete must have achieved a cumulative GPA of at least 3.2, and participated in the EIWA tournament, or achieved a cumulative GPA of 3.0 and qualified for the NCAA tournament through the EIWA (NQ).
 
All five sharks had GPAs above 3.44, and DiGennaro's 3.79 ranked the eighth highest in the entire league. Lagan earned the honors for the second-straight season.
