BROOKVILLE, N.Y. – The LIU men's soccer team beat Sacred Heart at home Monday afternoon. The Sharks shut out the Pioneers, 1-0 to move to 1-0-1 in Northeast Conference play.
LIU scored early in Monday's contest. Just over five minutes into action, freshman
Emil Jaaskelainen dribbled down the left side of the field. The forward crossed it in front of the net, where senior
Jonas Dovland was able to head it in past SHU's keeper for his first goal of the season, and LIU led, 1-0.
Sacred Heart would keep the pressure on, including outshooting LIU 9-3 in the second half, and costly Shark penalties gave the Pioneers multiple free kick chances.
Keeper
Demetri Skoumbakis made three saves in net to get the shutout win.
Up next, LIU hosts Fairleigh Dickinson, Monday, March 15 at 1 p.m.
