BROOKLYN, N.Y. – The LIU women's soccer team stayed undefeated in Northeast Conference action Tuesday afternoon, when they took to the road and beat St. Francis Brooklyn, 1-0. With the win, the Sharks move to 3-0-0 in NEC play.
LIU outshot the Terriers over 90 minutes 12-9, but didn't get on the board until late in the contest. The Sharks scored on a corner kick in the 84th minute.
Emily Poole took the kick, arcing it in front of SFBK's net. Two Sharks had attempts, as junior
Kendra Oldroyd headed it and it hit the crossbar, and then freshman
Gabbi Leach had a shot on that rebound. After an SFBK defender blocked that shot, it was freshman
Kira Adkins, who kicked it in on the left side off the second rebound.
It was the first collegiate goal for Adkins, putting LIU up, 1-0 with just over five minutes left in the game.
The Sharks' defense held the surging Terriers off for the last five minutes of play, including clearing two corner kicks, and LIU took the 1-0 win.
Up next, LIU heads north to take on Merrimack, Tuesday, March 20 at 3 p.m.
