NORTH ANDOVER, Mass. – The LIU men's soccer team had another dramatic game on the road Monday evening, battling Merrimack to a 1-1 tie. 110 minutes of soccer wasn't enough to determine a winner, and LIU moves to 1-1-2 in Northeast Conference play.
Merrimack got on the board in the first half, when LIU scored an own goal. It would take nearly the entire contest for the Sharks to get it back. But they did, in the 82nd minute. Freshman
Emil Jaaskelainen was taken out on a fast break by the Warrior keeper, and earned a penalty kick. He made it, tying the game up, 1-1.
The game was a physical one, with six yellow cards between the two teams, and over 20 foul calls.
The Sharks kept the pressure on, with a shot on net in each of the overtime periods, but Merrimack's goalie would make the saves to keep the score knotted at one all.
LIU's keeper
Demetri Skoumbakis made five saves in net for the Sharks.
