SMITHFIELD, R.I. – The LIU women's tennis team came back from an early deficit to beat Bryant Saturday night and stay undefeated in Northeast Conference action. The Sharks won, 5-2, and move to 4-0 in the NEC.
Bryant became the first team this season to take the double point from the Sharks. The Bulldogs won in the Nos. 1 and 3 spots, in tough matches, 7-5 and 7-6(5). LIU had a win at No. 2, where
Victoria Erechtchenko and
Jasmine Maduel beat their Bulldog opponents, 6-4, but it wasn't enough, and LIU went into singles down 1-0.
Kate Jorjoliani would tie it up for LIU with her win in the No. 6 singles spot, where she beat Haley Pollock easily, 6-1, 6-0. But Bryant would take the next win in the No. 4 spot, 6-1, 6-1, to take the 2-1 match lead. But
Bianca Compuesto tied it up again with her win in the No. 5 spot. She beat Manuela Gomez Estrada, 6-1, 6-3 to tie the match up, 2-2.
Sofiya Kuzina gave LIU its first lead of the day with her win in the No. 1 singles spot. She beat Ada Boru 6-3, 6-1, to put the Sharks up, 3-2. And
Valentina Dancenco clinched the match win for LIU with her win at No 2 singles, 6-3, 7-5. Erechtchenko gave the Sharks their fifth and final point of the day in the No. 3 singles spot, where she defeated Leanne Kendall in three sets, 6-2, 2-6, 7-6 (4).
