SMITHFIELD, R.I. – The LIU women's soccer team improved to 2-0 on the season Tuesday, when the Sharks took to the road and beat Bryant, 1-0. LIU took the lead late, when sophomore
Maria Orozco scored in the 83rd minute.
LIU kept the pressure on most of the game, outshooting the Bulldogs, 15-12. LIU had two keepers split the shutout, as
Lydia Fraga Cordoba had five saves, and
Kayla DeTreux made two.
The Sharks would get some shots late in the game that Bryant goalie Meghan Dalton saved to keep it knotted at 0-0, but at 83:41, Orozco would find the back of the net, with assists credited to
Amanda Hjelle and
Sarah Borer.
Bryant kept the pressure on, and DeTruex made two of her saves in the last three minutes of the game, and LIU took the 1-0 win.
With the win, the Sharks move to 2-0-0 in the Northeast Conference.
