BROOKVILLE, N.Y. – EJ Exposito had a huge day at the plate in his debut for the Long Island University baseball team as the Sharks rolled past Fairleigh Dickinson University, 12-0 in its season-opener on Wednesday, March 10.
Exposito finished 4-for-5 at the plate, blasting two home runs, lacing a double, and driving in six runs. The sophomore launched his first homer of the day and the first LIU home run of the season during the fifth inning to give LIU a 2-0 lead. Two innings later he drove in his second run of the day with a single through the left side of the infield, and capped off his day with a grand slam as part of an eight-run eighth inning for the Sharks.
Six other Sharks recorded one hit on the day, including a two-run pinch-hit single by
Dawson Degnan.
Christopher Wasson was a problem on the base paths all day, swiping two bags and scoring one run.
On the mound, LIU used nine hurlers to hold the Knights to just two hits and zero runs.
Mike Lazos earned the win, going two innings in the start, striking out two.
LIU returns to the diamond on Wednesday, March 17 for another non-conference matchup with FDU in Brookville. The first pitch is slated for 2:00 p.m.
