SYOSSET, N.Y. – The LIU women's hockey team fell to NEWHA rival Sacred Heart Tuesday afternoon at Ice Works, 3-1.
The Sharks, who were facing off with the Pioneers for the second time in two weeks, moved to 1-6 overall this season.
After a quiet first period, LIU got on the board, scoring five minutes into the second. Sophomore
Renee Hoffmann scored her first goal of the season, with assists to
Matilda af Bjur and
Carrigan Umpherville. Nine minutes later, however, Sacred Heart got on the board, scoring to tie it up, 1-1. And three minutes after that, the Pioneers scored the goal-ahead goal, taking a 2-1 lead.
SHU would add an insurance goal on an empty net late in the third period, when LIU had pulled keeper
Kenzie Harmison, to make the final score 3-1.
Harmison made 25 saves in net in the loss, while SHU's keeper Frankie Sanchez made 35 saves in net to keep her team on top.
