FAIRFIELD, Conn. – The LIU women's hockey team had a win on the road Tuesday in a midday matinee at Sacred Heart, beating the Pioneers, 3-1.
LIU's first goal came midway through the first period, when sophomore
Abby Latorella scored on a breakaway. The sophomore had her second goal of the season with the help of freshman
Alex Thomas and sophomore
Alva Johnsson, to make it 1-0 Sharks.
Johnsson would score the eventual game-winner for LIU in the second period, on a scrum in front of the net. She registered her second goal of the season, with assists credited to freshman
Payton Luff and sophomore
Paula Bergström, 2-0.
The home team would score a few minutes later on a power play to get on the board and cut the lead to one, but just four minutes after that goal, sophomore
Megan Bouveur scored on a power play to squelch any momentum. Bouveur scored a beaut, sending the puck through her defender's legs and past the goalie's right shoulder to make it 3-1 in favor of the Sharks.
Neither team would score in the third period, and LIU would take the win by a final score of 3-1.
Goalie
Kenzie Harmison had 16 saves in net for the Sharks in the win.
Up next, LIU heads north for a two game series at Syracuse, Friday, February 19 and Saturday, February 20.
