FAIRFIELD, Conn. – The LIU women's hockey team beat Sacred Heart on the road Wednesday afternoon, downing the Pioneers, 4-1.
After two scoreless period, the Sharks would score four goals in the final 17 minutes to take the win from the Pioneers, and move to 3-8 on the season.
Sophomore
Paula Bergström would get the scoring started for LIU three and a half minutes into the third period. She scored with help from classmates
Carrigan Umpherville and
Matilda af Bjur to put LIU up, 1-0.
The lead didn't last long. Just over two minutes later, Sacred Heart would score the equalizer to make it 1-1.
LIU retook the lead just 14 seconds later, however. After winning the faceoff,
Maggie Culp found af Bjur in front of the net, and she scored the go-ahead goal for the Sharks, 2-1.
The scoring spree was just the start for the Sharks in the third.
Julia Hoffmann would add another goal at 12:53, with help from
Alva Johnsson and
Megan Bouveur to make it 3-1. And Johnsson would score a power play goal with just 30 seconds left in the game to give LIU the 4-1 win.
Sophomore goalie
Kenzie Harmison had 24 saves in net in her third win of the year.
