SHARKS WIN! Women’s Hockey Beats Franklin Pierce, 4-1

EAST MEADOW, N.Y. – The LIU women's ice hockey team kept its unbeaten streak alive in NEWHA action at home Friday, beating Franklin Pierce, 4-1. With the win, the Sharks are 9-0 in conference play.

SHARK BITES
  • After a scoreless first period, the Sharks got on the board quickly in the second period, when Megan Bouveur scored a power play goal to give LIU the 1-0 lead. She was helped on the score by Jeannie Wallner and Bri Eid.
  • The Ravens answered quickly though, scoring a goal less than a minute later to even it up.
  • 12 minutes later, the Sharks would score a short-handed goal. Matilda af Bjur got the puck on power play defense, and passed it to a breaking Carrigan Umpherville. The junior took on Franklin Pierce's goalie one-on-one, and won, flipping a shot into the back of the net. The eventual game-winner put LIU up, 2-1.
  • In the third period, Maggie Korneta and Alva Johnsson would both score to widen LIU's lead to 4-1. Megan Roe had the help on Korneta's goal, and Korneta and Journey Miller got the apples for Johnsson's power play score.
  • Korneta also had two blocked shots for the Sharks on defense.
  • Freshman goalie Tindra Holm earned the win in the start, making 23 saves.
  • Up next, the two teams face off in a rematch at Northwell, Saturday, December 4 at 2 p.m.
