Men’s Ice Hockey Battles #2 Bobcats

EAST MEADOW, N.Y. – The LIU men's ice hockey team scored first Friday night at Northwell Ice Center, but the #2 nationally-ranked Quinnipiac Bobcats got the best of the Sharks in the end, winning 4-1. With the decision, Quinnipiac moves to 13-1-3 on the season, while LIU is now 4-9-3.

SHARK BITES
  • LIU got the jump early on the visitors, but Quinnipiac out-shot the Sharks 8-1 in the first period. Neither team would score, however, and it was 0-0 after one.
  • The Sharks got on board first, scoring early in the second. Tyler Welsh would score with help from Zach Nazzarett and Nolan Welsh, to put LIU up, 1-0.
  • LIU held on to that lead for 12 minutes, before the Bobcats scored two quick ones. The first came on a power play, and less than two minutes later, an even strength goal made it 2-1.
  • The Sharks had a chance in the third period that looked like it went in, but no whistle blew. The Bobcats would score the next time down the ice to zap momentum, taking a 3-1 lead.
  • The visitors would add one more empty net goal in the final minute, and Quinnipiac took the win, 4-1.
  • Spencer Cox blocked four shots on defense for LIU, while Jordan Timmons added three blocked shots.
  • Goalie Vincent Purpura had 25 saves on the night to keep LIU in the game throughout.
  • Up next, the two teams face off in a rematch, Saturday, December 11 at Quinnipiac.
