LOWELL, Mass. – The LIU men's ice hockey team battled their third nationally-ranked opponent of the season on the road Wednesday, finishing the night with a draw. The Sharks scored late in the third period to force the game to overtime, and ended with a 3-3 tie with #19 UMass Lowell.
With the tie, LIU moves to 2-5-1 on the season, while the Riverhawks are now 4-1-2.
SHARK BITES
- The Sharks struck first Wednesday, as PJ Marrocco scored in the 14th minute of the first period to get LIU on the board 1-0. Assists went to Marty Westhaver and Jake Stevens.
- LIU made it 2-0 when Spencer Cox scored a power play goal just 46 seconds into the second period, assisted by Billy Jerry and Jordan Timmons.
- UMass Lowell scored a power play goal in the second, and an even strength goal towards the end of the period, tying the game up 2-2.
- The Riverhawks added another power play goal in the third, taking the 3-2 lead.
- Sophomore Jack Quinn had some late-game heroics, scoring a goal with just over one minute to play in the third period, with assists from Jerry and Jordan Di Cicco. His goal tied the game up, 3-3, forcing extra time.
- Neither team scored in the OT period, ending with the first tie of the season for the Sharks.
- Senior goalie Kris Carlson made 25 saves in net for the Sharks, including two in the OT period.
- Up next, the Sharks host Saint Michael's College for a two game series at home, Saturday, November 6 and 7.
