EAST MEADOW, N.Y. – The LIU men's ice hockey team battled RPI to a 2-2 draw in overtime at the Northwell Health Ice Center Saturday night. The Sharks struck first, and withstood two comebacks from the Engineers, to finished tied 2-2. With the tie, LIU is now 2-7-3 on the season. Goalie
Kris Carlson had a strong game in net for LIU, making 29 saves.
SHARK BITES
- LIU scored first in the home game, early in the first period on an even strength goal from Jordan Timmons, with an assist from Jordan Di Cicco. RPI answered about 10 minutes later to tie it up.
- Neither team scored in the second period, in large part to Carlson and the LIU defense. RPI had a 5-on-3 opportunity, but did not score. Carson Musser blocked a huge shot, and so did Tyler Welsh, helping kill the power play with the score still tied, 1-1.
- Early in the third period, Welsh would score a power play goal of his own, assisted from Di Cicco and Billy Jerry, to give LIU the 2-1 lead.
- The Engineers would score in the 14th minute of the period on a scramble in front of the net, tying the game up, 2-2 and sending it to OT.
- LIU started the overtime period with a power play opportunity, but RPI killed it successfully. Carlson made another two huge saves in the final 20 seconds of overtime, and the Sharks finished with a tie, 2-2.
