EAST MEADOW, N.Y. - The LIU women's ice hockey team had a hard-fought loss against the University of Maine Saturday afternoon at the Northwell Ice Center. The Sharks rallied to tie the game up in the third period, before a quick goal by the Black Bears gave them the 3-2 win.
Maine went up early in the contest, scoring two goals in the first period. LIU started to chip away, scoring their first goal of the game in the last two minutes of the period. The Sharks scored on a power play with 1:40 on the clock.

Megan Bouveur, cutting the lead to 2-1.
Neither team scored in the second period, despite strong chances. In the third stanza, it was junior
Abby Latorella who tied things up for the Sharks. Latorella scored an unassisted breakaway goal to knot it up, 2-2.
But the Black Bears answered just two minutes later, scoring the go-ahead goal with nine minutes on the clock, 3-2. LIU would continue to battle until the end of the game, but Maine would eek out the 3-2 win.

Kenzie Harmison made 25 saves for LIU in the loss. Up next, the Sharks open NEWHA play, taking on Sacred Heart, Friday, October 16 at 3 p.m.
