SHARKS WIN! Wallner’s Two Goals Lead Women's Ice Hockey to 3-1 Win Over SHU

EAST MEADOW, N.Y. – The LIU women's ice hockey team notched its first win of the season Friday at Northwell, beating Sacred Heart, 3-1. Freshman Jeannie Wallner scored her first two NCAA goals in the game, including the game-winner.

Neither team scored in the first period, but Sacred Heart opened scoring in the second on a power play goal.

Three minutes later, Wallner tied it up, scoring her first collegiate goal in the 14th minute to make it 1-1.

The game stayed tied into the third period, when Wallner struck again. This time, she scored five minutes into the action, with help from Megan Bouveur and Matilda af Bjur on a power play to make it 2-1.

And then with 33 seconds left in the game, Bouveur scored on a power play to clinch the win, giving the Sharks a 3-1 lead. Carrigan Umpherville and Bri Eid had assists on the third and final goal for LIU.

Freshman goalie Tindra Holm had the win in net, making 21 saves for the Sharks.

Up next, the two teams face off in a rematch in Connecticut, Saturday, October 16.
