UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – The LIU men's hockey team scored twice in Pegula Ice Arena Monday night, but it wouldn't be enough to upend host Penn State, as the Nittany Lions took the win, 5-2.
Penn State scored twice in the first period, including once on a power play. LIU would answer in the last five minutes, when
Jordan Di Cicco scored on a power play for the Sharks, assisted by
Isaiah Fox and
Gustav Müller to make it 2-1.
The Nittany Lions would score twice in the second, and once more in the third to widen the lead to 5-1, but the Sharks were able to get on the board once more in the last 10 minutes. Senior
Max Balinson scored with help from
Marty Westhaver and
Carson Musser, cutting the gap to 5-2.
Senior goalie
Kris Carlson had 21 saves in net in the first two periods, while
Vincent Purpura entered the game in the third and registered 20 saves.
Up next, the Sharks head to Indiana to take on the University of Notre Dame, Saturday, October 9th at 6 p.m.
