EMMITSBURG, Md. – The LIU men's soccer team beat Northeast Conference foe Mount St. Mary's on the road Sunday afternoon, downing the Moutaineers, 5-1. Sophomore
Assane Ben Fall scored two goals for the Sharks to lead the offensive win, which pushed LIU to 10-4-2 overall, and 6-2-0 in the NEC.
LIU scored just one in the first half. Sophomore
Emil Jaaskelainen scored first off a pass from
Matthias Heiland, and the Sharks led 1-0 at the break.
In the second half, the LIU offense unloaded, scoring four straight goals. Early in the half, Heiland scored an unassisted goal of his own, to put LIU up, 2-0. Senior
Henry Haferkorn would score next, assisted by freshman
Robert Winkler.
And then
Assane Ben Fall scored back to back goals for the Sharks. The first, in the 73rd minute, came with help from Jasseklainen and
Michael Mollica. And in the 77th minute, the sophomore scored with help from
Alan Martinez.
Mount would score in the 84th minute on a penalty kick, but LIU took the win, 5-1. Up next, the Sharks return home to host St. Francis Brooklyn, Sunday, November 7.
