Men’s Hockey Battles #10 UNO Saturday

OMAHA, Neb. – The LIU men's hockey team scored first on #10 nationally-ranked Nebraska Omaha Saturday night at Baxter Arena, but the Mavs held on to get the win, 7-1. LIU moves to 2-5-0 on the season with the defeat.
 
The Sharks got on the board first in the game, scoring just 23 seconds into the action. Sophomore Marty Westhaver scored a goal off an assist from Preston Brodziak, putting the Sharks up, 1-0 on the #10 team in the nation.
 
Three minutes later, Omaha tied it up, 1-1, and scored again in the first to leave the period with a 2-1 lead. Four goals in the second period put things out of reach for LIU, and a final goal in the third made it 7-1 for the home team.
 
SHARK BITES
  • Brodziak had an assist for LIU, and also led the defense with four blocked shots.
  • Spencer Cox and Westhaver eached blocked two shots as well.
  • Vincent Purpura made 19 saves in the loss, while Brandon Perrone made nine.
  • Up next, the Sharks take on UMass Lowell, Wednesday, November 3 at 7:15 p.m.
