BROOKVILLE, N.Y. – LIU field hockey head coach
Raenee Savin earned her 200th career win as a head coach at home Friday afternoon, as the Sharks shut out Sacred Heart, 3-0. With the win, LIU is now 6-8 overall, and 4-1 in Northeast Conference play.
The Sharks scored first in the second period on a corner.
Michaela Zabicki took the corner, and LIU executed a set play beautifully, as
Emilce Paez passed it to
Emma Braeckmans, who crossed it to a waiting
Sammy Bell. Bell took the shot and scored, putting LIU on top, 1-0.
In the third period, LIU added to its total when Sacred Heart's goalie came out to defend Braeckman's breakaway. Though her shot was stopped, junior
Felicia King was there waiting, and hit the rebound right back into the net, putting LIU up, 2-0.
LIU added a third goal after time had expired. The Sharks registered three straight penalty corners, and on the third,
Saarah Olton scored off a direct pass from Zabicki, to make the final score 3-0 LIU.
The Sharks out-shot Sacred Heart 10-5 in the win, with goalie
Rachel Vellis making four saves, and Zabicki making one defensive save on a corner.
Up next, the Sharks head north to take on Bryant, Sunday, October 24 at 12 p.m.
