SHARKS WIN! Field Hockey Notches Huge 2-1 Win at Rider

LAWRENCEVILLE, N.J. - The LIU field hockey team won its second straight Northeast Conference game Sunday afternoon, beating defending NEC champion Rider oon the road. The Sharks avenged their loss to the Broncs in April, beating Rider on their home field, 2-1.

The Sharks scored early in the game when Felicia King had a goal off a penalty corner, with Samantha Olton credited on the assist just under three minutes into the game. In the second period, Sammy Bell also scored off a penalty corner, with help from Emilce Paez and Michaela Zabicki, giving the Sharks a 2-0 lead.

Rider would score once at the end of the first half on a corner of their own, but it was the last time either team would find the back of the net.

Senior goalie Rachel Vellis made three saves in net, as LIU improved to 4-7 on the season, and 2-1 in NEC action.

Up next, the Sharks host Merrmiack Friday, October 16 at 12 p.m.
