SYOSSETT, N.Y. – The LIU women's hockey team had a tough loss in their home opener Sunday, falling to Quinnipiac 11-0.  Prior to the game, LIU unveiled a new championship banner, celebrating the 2020 NEWHA championship.
 
SHARK BITES

• Quinnipiac got off to a quick start, scoring their first goal just 19 seconds into the contest. The bulk of scoring came in the second period, when the Bobcats netted seven in goal. The Sharks held Quinnipiac to just one goal in the third period.
• Goalie Kenzie Harmison had 48 saves in net for the Sharks.
• Sophomore Carrigan Umpherville led the Sharks with seven shots, four of which were on net. She also had two blocks on defense.
• Sophomore Megan Bouver had three blocks on defense and won a team-high 12 faceoffs. She also had three shots on goal.
• Paula Bergström also had three blocks defensively for LIU.
• Sarah Rourke, Megan Roe and Alva Johnsson also registered multiple shots for the Sharks.
• The next women's hockey game is to be announced, as the match up at Sacred Heart on the 20th has been postponed.
