Women’s Basketball Wages Battle vs Wagner

BROOKLYN, N.Y. – The LIU women's basketball team struggled to score late in the game Friday night at the Steinberg Wellness Center, and it cost them, as Wagner took the win, 49-35.

SHARK BITES
  • Despite a low-scoring start, LIU was in a good spot at the end of the first quarter, leading Wagner, 12-10. The two teams stayed close throughout the second period, and went into halftime tied, 21-21.
  • Coming out of the break, LIU grabbed the momentum. Sparked by a three from junior Shyla Sanford, the Sharks would outscore the Seahawks 11-6 over the next six minutes, taking a 32-27 lead with three minutes left in the third period.
  • But from there, LIU would struggle to make shots. Over the final 13 minutes of the game, the Sharks scored just five points to Wagner's 22, as the visiting team took the second-straight win, 49-35.
  • Junior Kiara Bell led LIU with six points, twelve rebounds and four blocks.
  • Freshman Zoee Hache had six points, five rebounds, three assists and three steals.
  • Up next, the Sharks (1-5) will travel down Fulton Street to take on local rival St. Francis Brooklyn, Saturday, January 23 at 4 p.m.
